It is great pleasure and honour for me to be here today on the occasion of the official launch of the Ghana Agricultural Sector Investment Programme, already commonly known as ‘GASIP’.

It is my pleasure to join you today for the launch of the Ghana Agricultural Sector Investment Programme (GASIP) being implemented by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Gilbert F. Houngbo, former Prime Minister of Togo and the new President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), outlines how he intends to lead the organisation in tackling global issues such as youth migration and gender inequality in poor, rural areas.

You have extensive experience in politics, international development and financial management;

The key note address was delivered by the minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Fiifi Fiavi  Kwetey, on behalf of the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The President noted that GASIP is a collaborative programme between MOFA and IFAD to support agricultural productivity.

Statement by Director, West and Central Africa – International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
The IFAD Director for West and Central Africa, Mr. Ides De Willebois, in his address expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the GASIP launch. He extended the appreciation of IFAD to the GoG for this partnership, and noted that over the past 35 years IFAD has partnered the Government of Ghana in 17 programmes and projects with US$271.5 million in loans and grants which have benefited some 3.5 million rural people.  He stated that IFAD has recognised the country’s effort in improving agricultural productivity targeting rural transformation.
